Bugs are fun to create and there is often a playfulness and array of bright colors that evoke the bliss of childhood. I first started making bugs after being inspired by simple illustrations in children's books that read to my young son. Like with all my other subject matter, I have explored a range of styles from a more disciplined attempt at realism to completely made-up abstractions. I have found recurring connections between fish, tackle and bugs in that they all have real-world, near infinite variations in size, shape, color and pattern. And tackle are essentially representations of bugs and smaller fish that other fish like to eat!
