My creatures are an amalgam of pretty much all of my other subject matter. They are probably the most fun and freeing of all the things that I make in that there are no preconceived notions of what it is supposed to be. The goal is only to make something with fun and interesting complexity and uniqueness. My main inspiration for the "creatures" are antique and hand-made toys like the ones that pulled along on wooden wheels or had simple wind-up key mechanisms. I mix the elemental parts of different subject matter like the body of a bug with the propeller of a tackle. I also like to find ways to incorporate found objects - interesting parts of a tool or mechanism that is broken or used up, like the nozzle of my air compressor or a worn out wire wheel. The result is always a creation with a very unique personality, a mis-fit. These are most often appreciated and relatable to people who have learned to embrace the fact that they are a little bit "different" than what main-stream society considers normal.
